NEW UPDATE – BMU NETWORK LEADERSHIP AND CFMA ELECTIONS SUCCESSFUL

The Kilwa District BMU Network is excited to share a new update on its ongoing efforts to strengthen community-led fisheries management.

In collaboration with the Fisheries Department of Kilwa District Council, the Network has successfully completed leadership elections for the BMU Network and two Collaborative Fisheries Management Areas (CFMAs): TIM4SI and Nyamanjisopoja. Election Timeline: • TIM4SI CFMA: March 17, 2026 • Nyamanjisopoja CFMA: March 18, 2026 • Kilwa District BMU Network: March 19, 2026 The completion of these elections reflects the growing commitment of coastal communities in Kilwa to democratic governance, community participation, and sustainable fisheries management. It is also a sign of maturity in local decision-making and marine resource stewardship. The Network congratulates all elected leaders and encourages them to serve with integrity, accountability, and dedication. These leaders will play a key role in advancing marine conservation, improving fisheries practices, and ensuring the sustainable use of our marine resources. Together, we are building resilient coastal communities and safeguarding marine ecosystems for future generations. #FisheriesManagement #MarineConservation #BMU #CommunityLeadership #SustainableDevelopment #Kilwa
