Newly Elected BMU Network Leaders Receive Good Governance Training Kilwa District, Tanzania | 26 May 2026

The participants included the Network Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Governance Coordinator, Finance Coordinator, Patrol Coordinator, and an Executive Committee Member. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and practical exercises, the leaders gained a deeper understanding of their roles and responsibilities, the network's vision and mission, effective communication, conflict resolution, and good governance principles. The training was facilitated by three professionals, including two representatives from partner NGOs and one officer from the Kilwa District BMU Network. Participants also developed work plans to guide the implementation of their responsibilities and support the achievement of the network's objectives. One of the key outcomes of the training was improved unity and collaboration among leaders following the recent network elections. The sessions helped build trust, strengthen teamwork, and create a shared commitment to advancing sustainable fisheries management and marine conservation initiatives in Kilwa District. This activity forms part of the ongoing efforts by the Kilwa District BMU Network and Blue Ventures to strengthen governance structures and enhance community-based fisheries management for the benefit of coastal communities and marine resources.

Together, we protect our ocean and secure livelihoods for generations to come.
